Week 6: Feb. 22-29, 2025


Summary

The first half of the week was spent preparing for the alpha playtest demonstration, and the latter half of the week was spent condensing the feedback that we obtained as well as the bugs that we observed, in preparation for the Ubisoft build.   

Timeline

  1. February 25: Alpha playtesting demonstration. Industry guests play tested our game and tried out the different mechanics and puzzles. Feedback was given and discussed as a team. 
  2. February 28: Team meeting to discuss outstanding bugs and assign priority to tasks to be completed before the Ubisoft build. 

Progress

  • Finished rigging actions for tail, mouth, and front paw.
  • Implemented the switching mechanic as well as a species switching station. 
  • Added tutorial texts / UI elements to indicate instructions and introduce players to the game. 
  • Added audio for colliders, vase shattering, and noise. 
  • Added an animation to transition players from the attic level to the living room. 
  • Set up attic with more interactive items. 

Challenges

  • Faced issues with frozen rotation. Rotation was frozen to ensure that the pet stayed upright, but that prevented other movements, such as climb, from working. 
  • Faced issues with rigging, specifically for complex movements such as bending the head down to drag the rug, or climbing up the wall. 
  • There were bugs regarding the pet not completing all tasks before progressing onto the next scene, or accidentally falling into the void. Constraints will need to be added to accommodate these issues. 

Next Steps 

  • Fix Bugs:
    • Have climbing functional
    • Have dog hind legs functional
    • Grab rigging (make sure that mouth stays open)
    • Task order enforcement to attic
    • Camera Collision Fix
    • Hide the attic’s yellow void
  • Add Audio:
    • paw walking sound 
    • dog panting / breathing sounds
  • Polish Attic Demo: Add clearer instruction texts and present tasks one by one instead of using a list.
  • Polish Living Room:
    • Fill the living room level with tasks and environment objects. 
    • Add transition UI showing transition from attic to living room. 
  • Add in UI:
    • splash screen
    • help screen
