Week 3: February 1-7, 2025

Summary

This week was spent brainstorming possible level designs, creating a development timeline for the upcoming weeks, and preparing for the design document submission.

Timeline

  1. February 1: Held a team-wide meeting to discuss level design ideas. We brainstormed possible puzzles as well as the potential rooms in which these puzzles would take place. We also defined a set of environment objects that the pet can interact with. Lastly, we created a project timeline document that defined goals and milestones to be completed weekly by each of the dev, art, and music teams.
  2. February 4: Design Presentation
  3. February 7: Design Document Submission

Progress

  • Defined a preliminary list of puzzles and assigned them to each room.
  • Created a list of environment objects that the pet can interact with.
  • Brainstormed how to utilize the tutorial level to introduce players to the basic and special actions.
  • Progress on modeling our dog character
  • Designed and placed furniture in the attic and living room.
  • Defined implementation goals for each week by each team to track progress.

Challenges

  • Difficulty figuring out the details of each puzzle without a clear image of what the room contains or what can be achieved by the actions that the pet can perform

Next Steps

  • Figure out a reliable solution (instead of hacky workarounds that only work for some machines) for the gravity issue
  • Reconvene as a team to discuss how to split up tasks for the next milestone
  • Continue building the Living Room Level
  • Populate our Attic Level with tasks
  • Designing sounds for tasks (e.g., vase falling and breaking) and integrating these sounds into the game
  • Implement the rest of our basic actions (tail movement, front paw usage, making a noise)
  • Refine the cat front’s climbing special action and dog back's hind leg action
